Research Associate
Wurts & Associates is in search of a technically experienced, intellectually curious and self-motivated team member with an extensive network of manager contacts to help expand the depth and knowledge of the Research team.
Duties Include:
- Be responsible for manager search, due diligence, relationship building and selection in several traditional asset classes, as well as limited exposure to alternative strategies, including preparing client-ready presentation materials.
- Engage in thought-provoking manager search, due diligence and selection research that is above and beyond current industry practices. Proactively seek new and more predictive models for incorporating active managers into clients' asset allocations.
- Continuously incorporate firm's top-down capital markets and macroeconomic research into manager search and selection and ongoing due diligence responsibilities; comparatively present qualified managers for discussion amongst the other manager research professionals to foster selection of best-in-class managers for client portfolios.
- Serve as representative of the firm through meeting with investment managers, speaking at industry conferences, and developing trusted relationships with high quality managers.
- Attend client meetings as necessary in support of consultants through synthesis and communication of manager research findings to clientele.
- Mentor junior staff members and integrate them into research efforts.
Experience / Requirements:
- CFA charter holder required
- Ten or more years of research experience in manager research, external portfolio manager programs and/or institutional consulting
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics or other closely-related field
- MBA preferred and CAIA desirable
- In-depth knowledge of asset managers and extensive network of industry contacts
- Proven track record overseeing a broad range of asset classes; expert in several asset classes preferred
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills required
- Computer proficiency with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel and web-based applications. Bloomberg, Morningstar, and Evestment Alliance experience preferred.

Please submit a one-page writing sample based on one of the following:
1. Juxtapose the defining characteristics of two large cap growth managers and recommend one over the other with two or three specific reasons.
2. Recommend whether a hypothetical client portfolio should reduce domestic equity exposure from a specific manager you know in favor of a generalized (or specific) long/short equity manager; defend that position.
3. Discuss your general impression of small cap (value or growth) managers' performance compared to small cap core strategies; cite at least one manager as an example.
